Pick and Nick Review

Pick and Nick is clearly heavily influenced by Pac-Man, but even now those are pretty big shoes to fill and Pick and Nick will have a hard time competing.

The game puts you in control of a bear and tasks you with collecting food from a picnic site. You advance to the next level when all the food is collected and like Pac-Man your character is constantly moving, all you do is pick a direction.

Challenge comes in the form of increasingly maze like environments to navigate, along with a park ranger who will try and block your path and a hunter who shoots darts at you from the perimeter of the level.

Unfortunately it’s all too easy. The levels take a long time to become anywhere near as maze like as even the first level of Pac-Man, the enemies never pursue you and the hunter’s darts are very slow to the point of being incredibly easy to avoid.

The end result is an exercise in tedium – particularly given the generous five lives that you start with.

Pick and Nick can be found on PlayJam.

More threatening enemies could have made this an engaging game, but right now it’s just dull.
