Panasonic Smart TV

Simple design with the latest technology sums up the latest range of smart televisions from Panasonic, marketed under the Smart Viera brand.

Offering a large range of energy-efficient smart televisions, designed around a single sheet of glass and a thin metal surround on the WT50 and DT50 Series, or a transparent crystal surround on the ET5 Series, Panasonic has created a distinctive design language for its Smart Viera range.

Smart Viera TVs are built to work with a smartphone or tablet, using existing Wi-Fi technologies including DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct, to either allow the remote control of the TV, or to watch videos on your device on the big-screen, or share photos with friends and family.

There’s also a choice of televisions with active or passive 3D systems included too.

But, what about the content?

Panasonic has built up an impressive app store that offers a decent selection of apps and games, including paid-for games from the likes of Gameloft. Games including Asphalt 5, Let’s Golf 2 and UNO.

And there are plenty of video apps too. Although there’s no Lovefilm support (Netflix and others are covered), it’s one of the only platforms offering access to Amazon’s Instant Video service (Amazon being the owner of Lovefilm), which might mean we could see a Lovefilm app released in the future – or access to Amazon’s own service, which might be launched later in 2012 to accompany its music service that is currently only available to US users.

In full control

Another nice feature on some of the high-end televisions is the Touch Pad Controller, which makes using your Smart TV even easier. Simply glide your thumb around the touch sensitive pad to navigate, using the other buttons to select, change channel or adjust the volume.

Got you covered

Panasonic is also offering a five-year warranty on selected televisions, although it’s always worth remembering that John Lewis also offers a five-year warranty on all of its TVs as standard.

Great article Jonathan. For those who live outside US like me, you can access Netflix, Hulu and similar media stations on your Panasonic Smart TV by using UnoTelly or similar tools.
