UK Pre-ordering opens for LG’s 55-inch OLED TV

Got £10,000 spare in your bank account? Well, how would you like to exchange that for the world’s first 55-inch OLED television? LG will even let you keep a penny for your troubles.

LG-OLED-55Starting from today, customers can pre-order the LG OLED TV (55EM970V) for delivery in July, with the set itself showcased exclusively at Harrods.

We could go on about the specs (you can find those in the link below), but most seem rather superflous compared to the two most important ones.

Firstly, this set is just over 4mm thick! That’s madness.

And secondly, given the use of OLED technology, there’s no measure of black levels needed here. Black is literally black, giving a level of contrast you can’t get on any other type of screen.

Of course it (almost) goes without saying that this TV also includes LG’s Smart TV functionality and Cinema 3D, for anyone that still thinks 3D is important.

So what are you waiting for? Oh, right, there’s that small issue of the £9,999.99 asking price…

Still, remember when a 42-inch plasma TV cost over £10,000? Give it a year or two and we should see OLED TVs available at much more affordable prices. Meanwhile, early adopters with money to burn should get their orders in right now!
