Roku – the company behind those small set top boxes that stream content from the Internet to your HDTV – has launched its latest model in the US, with a faster processor, updated user interface and an all-new remote control.
The new Roku 3′s new user interface, which will be available as an update to Roku 2, LT and HD users later in the year, offers an easier way to go through channels and improved searching to find titles quicker. The faster processor also makes it quicker to navigate menus than ever before.
Its motion controlled remote now has its own headphone jack, allowing a single user to listen privately – perfect for watching TV in bed. It has its own volume control on the side, while the motion controller can be turned sideways and used to play the bundled copy of Angry Birds Space, or other downloadable games.
Android and iOS users can also download a free Roku app to use a smartphone or tablet as another remote control for the box. Like previous Roku models, the Roku 3 supports wired Ethernet or dual-band Wi-Fi connection to your home network.
The Roku 3 will sell in the USA for US$99.99 when it goes on sale in April and hopefully we’ll see a release date announced for the UK in the near future.
