Sky has launched Sky Go Extra, giving users the ability to enjoy its huge library of content even when away from a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
However, given the ability to download your favourite movies and TV series to watch on a long-haul flight, or your morning commute in and out of tunnels (assuming you even have enough data on your tariff to stream over a mobiel network), it might a small price to pay for the extra convenience and flexibility.
Users will be able to download films from Sky Movies, as well as content from Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts, Nickelodeon and Disney; 43 channels in all. Sky Go is available to users of smartphones, tablets, game consoles and PC/Mac desktops and laptops.
According to Sky, the service attracts over three million unique users every quarter. At Smart TV Radar, we believe usage is likely to grow with the addition of a feature that makes Sky Go far more useful than it was when a working Wi-Fi or mobile data connection was needed to watch programmes.
To sign up, simply visit sky.com/shop/offers/sky-go-extra. Once registered, enter the Sky Go app and you will be able to download programmes, or add a further two devices to your registered list. The extra service can be cancelled with at least 31 days’ notice, while existing Sky Go users can sign up for a two-month free trial between now and the end of March.
